We caught a red-eye flight to Iceland that left at 11:00 pm Toronto time and got in at 4:30 am Toronto time, 8:30 am Iceland time.Needless to say we didn’t get much sleep. By the time we got through customs and picked up our luggage , and the shuttle from the campervan company came to pick us up, it was 10:30.
Then when they were showing us around our van, it displayed a diagnostics that it was leaking coolant. So we had to wait for them to get another one ready. We were finally on the road at about 12:30.
Here is our home for 3 weeks. I will show the inside once we get organized and I get some sleep.
Our first stop was to get sticker shock at the local grocery store. We hit the highway at about 1:45 for the 2 hour drive to our first campground.
The lava flow from the volcano is very close to the road from the airport to Reykjavik.
Because it was such a nice day and the forecast was not great we decided to hit some sites close to the campground first.
The very crowded location of the geyser that all others are named after was the first sop. That geyser is actually now dormant but there is another one that erupts around every 5-10 minutes.
The area is very active.
As I said it is a popular attraction..
The geyser had a powerful eruption just before we got there. The next one was not very big.
Moving around the circle, the next was a bit bigger.
As we walked over to check out the original Geysir, the big one went off, the wind blew our way and we got wet.
The original.
An even bigger one went off as we walked back to the van.
Our next stop was our first waterfall, Bruarfoss. It is known for its dark blue green water.
The picture from one side of the bridge over the river.
And the other end.
And a photosphere from from on the bridge and a photosphere from under the bridge.
Then finally to the campground for a quick dinner, create he blog post and to bed.
WOW! You did quite a bit on your first day especially after a red eye flight! Love your camper van! Of course your pics and photosphere are amazing!
ReplyDeleteClearly the Strokkur geyser was being very lazy the day we were there. Lol. We saw several sprays of varying heights but nothing as dramatic as what you saw.
