A very long driving day today with way too many rough dirt roads.
It started out mostly sunny with nice early morning sunlight.
It started to get cloudier as we headed inland but it made for some dramatic skies.
Unfortunately a long stretch of the road along the north shore of the peninsula was dirt and not in that great shape but the scenery was pretty good.
Back on paved highway heading north we climbed up near some snowy mountains.
Going west we bounced along the tops of several fiords. The pictures don’t even come close to capturing how amazing this scenery was.
It started to get sunnier again.
Our lunch stop.
A photosphere.
We stopped to check out this statue overlooking a huge canyon.
A photosphere.
Then more rough dirt roads on our way out to the Latrabjarg Cliffs.
We passed by Breidavik Beach.
Earlier in the year the cliffs are home to many different bird species but right now they are just amazing to look at.
It had been very windy all day but it was fierce here and blowing from the north directly out over the edge of the cliffs.
The path ran rather close to the edge. I always walked on the farthest one in. To take a picture I would crawl on my hand and knees to get close and then would lie completely flat to get to the edge. If you stood up you could easily get blown over especially since it was very gusty as well.
I did see one nest in the lower right, above.
Jennie had declined to walk along the windy cliff edge so I didn’t stay too long and headed back. There was a small lighthouse near the parking lot.
A photosphere.
Heading back.
Then back up and over the central highlands of this peninsula to our campground at Raudisandur red sand beach.
We got to watch a nice sunset.
