July 18 – Ithaca Farmers Market and Cornell Gardens

Nothing much exciting today. If you don’t like lots of pictures of vegetables and flowers you can skip this one.

It was blazingly hot. We first headed down to the Ithaca Farmers Market. It is only open on the weekend so we didn’t have much choice and sure enough it was really crowded but luckily someone pull out of their parking spot just as we arrived.

It is in a long covered shed so we were out of the sun but it was still very humid.

Lots of people in sandals and booths with flowers and nicely laid out fruits and vegetables.

There were many colourful versions of the more common items

We snacked on a sticky bun before deciding on a Kymer Pancake for lunch.

We ate it outside by the lakeshore, where there was at least the occasional breeze.

We made another walk up the aisle to fill our water bottle.

After escaping the parking lot, we headed up to the campus of Cornell University to take a short walk around the Botanical Gardens.

The gardens were not that big, at about 3 times the size shown in the picture below, but there was a huge variety of plants and they were well labelled with not just the name but the use or an interesting fact about each one.

This plant almost looked fake and plastic.

The heat was draining us so we headed back to the car. As I was programming the GPS to get us home, it went from bright sunshine to dark and then a cloud burst in about 30 seconds. Our weather luck is still mostly holding.

On the drive through the university we saw this great old house for the Phi Epsilon Kappa fraternity.

The A/C went on as soon as we got home.
