June 19 – To Big Meadow, Shenandoah National Park

Another move northward to the Big Meadow Campground. Shenandoah National Park is about 100 miles long and narrow  Skyline Drive is an extension of the Blue Ridge Parkway and runs up the middle.

I try to avoid bring the RV on these roads because I go so slow but that is where the campground is. We were only on Skyline Drive for about 15 miles and it wasn’t very busy so I managed to not get a line behind me.

This is a very busy campground. For the weekend I would say it is at least 95% full. It is quite a change from the last campgrounds on the Blue Ridge Parkway which were almost empty. There are not a lot of big RVs here. It is mostly tents.

I picked our site because it was open enough for Jennie’s TV reception.

We are right next to the forested area with the walk in tent sites. It is a long way in to carry all your stuff to some of them.

After how hot it was around our last campground, it is refreshingly cool here. We even joined all the short term campers and had a campfire.

We cannot get our hotspot to connect here but there is free WIFI and the Big Meadow Lodge close by. Our cell phone can just barley connect at the site. We will see how I try and contact my dad for Father’s Day.

We are here for 6 days.

  1. Nice campground site! It must be getting busy because the kids are out of school for the summer!
