Sep 6 – Mammoth Hot Springs

Today we did the 1 hour drive to the north west corner of the park to the Mammoth Hot Springs area.

The rock is this area of the park is mostly limestone. The hot water from the springs is slightly acidic so that when it reaches the surface it dissolves the limestone to form travertine terraces.

To tour the area they have built about a mile of boardwalk so that you don’t damage anything and it doesn’t damage you.

Everything was so beautiful that we took about 500 pictures today. I kept about 250. It is tough to pick the ones to show here. I will just let them do the talking.

Still a lot of people in the park.

The lower terraces are all walkway. We temporarily exited the lower terraces to walk the upper terrace loop drive. We can drive your car but it is so short that we walked.
