June 25 – White Point Trail

When looking at the forecast for today, up to yesterday, we thought it was going to be a write-off, as it was supposed to rain all day. Instead, for most of the day we had bright sunny skies above us with lots of threatening dark clouds raining in the distance. We only got a little wet coming back to the car.

So despite the forecast we headed out. Our first destination was going to be to drive to Mary Ann Falls but I guess the road was another thing closed by Hurricane Fiona.

Onwards to White Point, just north of us outside the National Park, and the short 3 km return trail out to the tip.

It turned out to have the most spectacular coastal scenery of the trip so far.

Heading up from the parking area we looked out to the west to see the far shore of the bay shrouded in rain and a very strong wind blowing towards us. In fact the wind was so strong that a lot of the time, it was a struggle to stay upright.

And the view from the top of the hill, above.

The photosphere.

We made it out, as far as we could go. There are two islands off the point.

We were surprised at how many people we saw in the short time we were here. At least 6 other couples and cars continuing to come as we drove away.

The photosphere.

The western shore of the point was very pretty.

But the Eastern shore. Wow! The pictures speak for themselves.  Colourful and ruggedly dramatic.

At one point we thought that we might be safe from the rain as we could start to see the hills on the far side of the bay to the west.

We wished we could have stayed longer but we could see the line of rain coming across the bay.

As I said we only got a bit wet as we headed back to the car.

We went back to the RV to have the sandwiches which we had taken with us.

Afterwards the weather went back to being sunny so we walked through the campground and down to the beach.

Nice sky in one direction.

Dark and angry in the other.

The waves almost caught Jennie.

We just sat and watched the waves and sky for a while before walking back home.
