July 22 – Around Lake Quinault

Not to rub it in to those of you sweltering back east but we had another nice sunny day with temps in the low 20C’s.

In the morning we did the recommended 31 mile drive around the lake and a bit up the Quinault River that feeds the lake. One small waterfall, a beautiful clear rushing river with mountains in the background and a twisty narrow dirt road through the tall trees.

Yesterday at the lodge Jennie had spied something she wanted to try. So today we had an even more civilized lunch inside the lodge. We had a seared Ahi tuna sandwich and fish with sweet potato fries. Both very good.

After lunch we hiked a series of trails that turn into a 4 mile loop that runs up the hill, along through the forest and then back down and along the lakeshore to return to the car. A lot of what we had already seen but still a nice day for a hike to work off that lunch.

I took my macro lens with me so here are some close up shots instead of scenery.

A couple of evil looking faces in this one.

We couldn’t figure out what this weird bubble like film was.
